Single-Level Living Townhomes for Sale

You can find single-family homes that provide one-level living.  Most home buyers looking for single-level living however, are searching for a townhome or condominium property so these are the focus of this post. Townhomes and condos tend to be popular because the association provides the maintenance of the building as well as lawncare and snow removal. Depending on the association, other services may also be provided.  It’s important to read the community documents to find out what services are provided and what the rules of the association are, ie. can you have pets.  Below are the different types of townhomes and condos that provide single-level living.

Detached Townhomes

Detached townhomes, often called “Villas,” are a popular option for single-level living and usually the most expensive of the options.  They are popular with buyers because they feel like a single-family home. Most new developments are offering this type of home.  Even though the intent is to provide single-level living, some may have a second floor for an office, or guest space.  Some may have a basement.  Other options will include 2-3 car garages, sunrooms, etc.  These Villa’s have started to be built together more as separate communities rather than part of a larger complex.  They may be located by a lake, trails, or golf course.

One-Level Townhomes (side by side)

Like detached townhomes, one-level/one-story townhomes may or may not have basements. Basements are important to home buyers as they provide a space for hobbies, guests and shelter for storms. Some newer units without a basement have been providing “shelter space” on the main level.  These spaces may be a master closet encased in concrete.   In general, these side-by-side townhomes will run 3-4 in a row.  Some may back up to another row but usually they will not but instead have patios, decks, or sunrooms off the back of the property.  In general, the middle units will be less expensive than the end units which tend to be larger and have the benefit of having more windows.

High Rise

These units really do provide more of a community feel.  The communities will have elevators to take you to the floor of your unit.  Your property will be one of several per floor and provide the one-level living you are looking for.  These high-rise communities can be restricted by age and usually have nice, shared amenities like a party room, game room, underground garage, exercise room, etc.  Some will even have guest units that can be rented if you have visitors in town. They will also have more structured events for the residents and some will even have transportation.  Most will have a community director you can speak to as part of viewing the specific property that is for sale.
